Alan Langton Memorial Cup set to be contested in memory of great Laois GAA servant

Alan Langton Memorial Cup Barrowhouse

Barrowhouse GAA are set to host their first Memorial Tournament on Sunday to commemorate all of their members who have passed.

And the teams who take place on March 16 will battle it out to claim the Alan Langton Memorial Cup.

There was shock on St Patrick’s Day 2024 when Alan passed away suddenly.

From Barrowhouse, Alan was a man who was hugely respected in GAA circles and a highly-regarded financial planner.

He was a former member of Laois GAA, having served as both football board chairman and juvenile chairman in the last 15 years or so.

He was Barrowhouse’s County Board delegate at the time of his passing and a recent secretary of the club.

Be it business, sporting, community, education or indeed historical or political matters, Alan was always well-informed, maintaining regular contact with a wide range of associates.

Lorcan Page of Barrowhouse explained how the day will work.

He said: “We’re calling it the Barrowhouse Memorial Tournament to commemorate all the passed members but the winners will get the Alan Langton Memorial Cup.

“His first anniversary is St Patrick’s Day so it’s just something to remember the big contribution he made to both Barrowhouse and Laois GAA.

“Barrowhouse, Athy, Ballylinan and St Joseph’s are taking part.

“Tea, Coffee and refreshments will be provided on the day to players and spectators in the clubhouse.

“€5 on the gate for players and all spectators. All welcome.”

Barrowhouse will face Athy in the first semi final at 1.30pm with Ballylinan taking on St Joseph’s in the second at 2.20pm.

The winners will then face off in the final at 3.30pm.
