Spring Equinox celebrations at ‘Walk Away from the Darkness’ event

A Laois wellness hub has put plans in place for a wonderful celebration of this year’s Spring Equinox.

SVT Activity and Wellness Hub is asking that their communities come together to “embrace the arrival of spring and the power of light at the Spring Equinox.”

SVT is a vibrant and inclusive hub that links the communities of Stradbally, Vicarstown and Timahoe.

The hub has organised a family event to mark the occasion which will be held at 7pm on Saturday, March 29, at the Vicarstown Bridge.

There is an open invitation for anyone who would like to take part in this free, family-friendly walk along the canal to experience the season of renewal.

The theme of this year’s event, “Walk Away from the Darkness,” draws on ancient symbolism, bidding farewell to winter and welcome the energy of spring through the powerful symbolic trees the holly and the oak rooted in Pagan traditions.

The Holly is traditionally associated with winter, representing protection and resilience during the cold months.

The Oak, on the other hand, is a symbol of strength and vitality, welcoming the rebirth of life and energy as we move into the lighter, brighter days of spring.

The trail will be surrounded by stunning light creations by renowned artist Evgeny Chubatyy, as well as music and refreshments to follow.

“Bring your family, reconnect with nature, and celebrate the beauty and light of the season,” the SVT Hub said, reminding attendees to bring their own lantern, candle or light on the walk.

This event is supported by Healthy Laois and Water Safety Ireland and Laois County Council.
