All systems go as Clonasee set for their latest St Patrick’s Day parade

Spring is well and truly in the air these days – meaning that those tasked with planning the St Patrick’s Day parade in Clonaslee are flat out with preparations for their latest celebration of our national holiday.

In Clonaslee they are pushing the boat out once again and this year will have the added bonus of the RTE cameras being in attendance.

Not only are they promising a hugely enjoyable day out for those who take part or attend – they are also offering a range of very attractive prizes.

They are hosting a parade for the fourth year running (having not had one previously) this St Patrick’s Day, starting at 12noon sharp from the Clonaslee Community Centre.

They are offering a €1,350 in cash prizes with a top prize of €600 and trophy for the best overall float – and a range of other cash prizes for other categories.

  • Best Vintage
  • Best dressed dog
  • Best club/school

  • Most entertaining float

If anyone has any queries about entering a float please contact Brendan on 087 9675054 or Ronan on 085 1482296.

Among the other main attractions are the fact the Clonaslee hurling team of 1975 will be the parade’s Grand Marshals.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the club’s last senior hurling championship success and members of that team will lead out the parade on March 17.

Among the other main attractions this year is a performance from the Portarlington Concert Band, the Uileann Pipes donated by Eileen Dunne’s family and if that isn’t enough, there will also be a tug of war on the Main Street.

This year’s parade gets underway at 12noon sharp from the Community Centre.
