Laois County Council are in the process of reviewing a recent planning application that would see new tourist accommodation developed in the county.
A joint application was made by JPRT Properties Ltd and EDH Properties Ltd for permission to begin work on Main Street in Mountrath.
The groups are proposing a change of use to an existing house to be converted into a commercial guesthouse, maintaining its current layout.
The application would also see the construction of a single-storey extension to the rear of the property.
This area would consist of six en-suite bedrooms, a plant room, a covered walkway, landscaping and all associated site works.
Furthermore, the application seeks to make alterations to the existing front of the property by replacing the current shopfront with the installation of two windows.
This would return the property to its original appearance.
The application also allows for the demolition of “structurally unsafe out-buildings” to the rear of the property.
A decision is due on April 14.
An application is also in front of the Council from Powerpoint Engineering Holding Ltd.
The company have applied for planning permission to make wholesale changes to their premises in Kealew Business Park, Portlaoise.
Powerpoint Engineering is a distributors of electrical testing instruments including substation safety equipment, electrical test instruments, power quality and energy monitoring, thermal imaging cameras and more.
The also provide various specialist electrical services and reports, including calibration and repair services, insulating oil analysis, lockout tagout customisation, energy monitoring surveys and more.
The premises in Kealew Business Park is to be converted from a fully-functional warehouse to a more office-based facility.
The proposed development would consist of the following alterations:
Ground floor:
- Conversion of warehouse area to office space.
- Conversion of warehouse area to a calibration administration area.
- Conversion detection calibration room to welfare area.
First Floor:
- Conversion of existing male toilets to ladies toilets.
- Conversion of office space to male toilets and IT server room.
- Conversion of a training room to a technical sales office.
- Conversion of existing office to a meeting room.
- Addition of a practical demonstration area.
