Gardai in Mountmellick arrested a man following a drugs raid at a retail property in the town on Tuesday.
At around 3.30pm, multiple squad cars were spotted in the town.
Gardai confirmed that a search had been carried out and a quantity of suspected cannabis herb was seized.
A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested and sent to Portlaoise Garda Station.
He was later released and is due to appear before Portlaoise District Court later in the month.
This is the second drugs raid to take place in Mountmellick within the last month.
On February 4, Gardai made a €13 million seizure at a commercial premises in the town.
Speaking about yesterday’s raid, a spokesperson said: “Gardaí carried out a search of a retail property in Mountmellick, Laois, on March 4 at approximately 3.30pm.
“A quantity of suspected cannabis herb was seized during the course of this operation.
“A man (30s) was arrested and conveyed to Portlaoise Garda Station.
“They were later released and are due to appear at the Portlaoise District Court on March 24, 2025.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
