February was a slow month for major planning applications in Laois, especially compared to the high level of activity seen in January.
However, there was one stand-out application which received conditional permission for a school development in the south of the County.
The Board of Managment at St Fiacc’s National School are seeking to construct a new AstroTurf pitch at the Graiguecullen school.
The planned development is to also include pitch lighting, fencing and all associated site works.
The school had been waiting on a decision from Laois County Council since their submission in December of last year.
Laois County Council also made recent decisions concerning two planning applications made by Kildare-based construction company, Cosmo Developments Limited.
The company had sought permission for small developments in existing housing estates in both Portlaoise and Mountmellick.
Under the subsidiary of Cosmo Developments Rockview Ltd, Laois County Council granted conditional approval for a development at Rockview Avenue, Portlaoise.
The application is for the construction of six two-storey, three-bedroom, five-person units.
Five units will be split-level terraced houses, while the other unit will consist of two semi-detached houses – a one-bedroom house and a two-bedroom house.
Approval was also granted for works at the existing entrance road, parking, boundary treatments, landscaped amenity space, roads and footpaths, and all associated site infrastructure works.
However, the subsidiary of Cosmo Developments Mountmellick Ltd was refused permission for their proposed development at Grange Manor, Mountmellick.
They had planned to construct two semi-detached, two-storey, three-bedroom houses in the existing estate.
There were also proposed changes to the current road layout, as well as landscaping, parking and siteworks.
