Laois Down Syndrome (LDS) are set to begin harvesting their new crop of shamrock tomorrow morning, Wednesday, March 5.
Every year, LDS purchase skillets of shamrock and sell them around the county as the their flagship fundraiser.
The skillets are purchased for €3 and sold for €6, with the profits raised provides weekly services for members of the branch.
They are sold in the lead up to St Patrick’s Day with the main sales taking place in Laois Shopping Centre on the Saturday and Sunday before the holiday.
This year, LDS planted approximately 5% of the shamrock in the Community Garden in O’Moore place.
Members of LDS, along with some parents, will begin harvesting the shamrock on Wednesday, March 5, at 11am.
The event will mark the official launch of LDS’s sales campaign for 2025.
The harvest, in conjunction with Laois Partnership Company, is a trial run on what could become an annual tradition.
