MATCH OFF: Laois v Carlow Division 1B hurling clash postponed due to an unplayable pitch

For the second time this season, a match involving the Laois senior hurlers has been called off due to an unplayable pitch.

Laois were due to face Carlow today in Round 4 but the match, scheduled for O’Moore Park, is postponed.

Heavy rain during the week left the surface very soft and the heavy rain this morning left Laois GAA officials with no choice.

The postponement and hectic nature of the calendar means that the St Patrick’s weekend is the only available date for a reschedule.

Laois have a bye next week but cannot face Carlow as they are due to play Antrim at home.

Laois play Antrim on March 9 and the final round of games, where Laois face Dublin, is on March 22.

It means that the weekend of March 15/16 is the only blank weekend for both teams where the game can be played.

This is the second time that bad weather has derailed Laois as a frozen pitch saw their Round 1 game against Westmeath postponed.

That was refixed last week and saw Laois, after opening losses to Offaly and Waterford, claim the win.
