There was great success for two Laois teams last weekend as they both claimed championship glory against Offaly.
The Laois 2nd Year and Junior Combined Schools teams won their respective Leinster championships.
Players from Mountrath CS, Heywood CS, St Fergal’s, Portlaoise CBS, Heywood, Mountmellick CS, Colaiste Iosagain and Portlaoise College were represented on both panels.
Players are only eligible for the combined schools teams if the school they attend does not play at A level – which none of the Laois schools do.
The second year competition, which mainly comprises of U-15 and some U-14 players, beat Kilkenny in the semi-final by 3-13 to 1-7.
They subsequently would go on to play and beat Offaly in Borris-In-Ossory by a score of 1-12 to 2-5.
The Junior competition is for players aged 16 and a half so it comprises of those in Third Year, TY and Fifth Year.
They similarly played Kilkenny and won in a landslide at 8-21 to 0-5 points in the semi final.
Offaly were beaten again in Borris-in-Ossary, but by the Junior Competitions panel this time at a score of 2-12 to 0-10.
Congratulations to both squads and their management teams.
