Just under €14.5 million has been allocated to Laois as part of an national investment programme for regional and local roads.
The total funding of €713 million was announced today by Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien as well as Ministers of State Sean Canney and Jerry Buttimer.
The funding is allocated to Laois County Council and is broken down under a number of different headings.
- Restoration Improvement – €7,664,000
- Discretionary Grant – €1,897,500
- Restoration Maintenance – €962,500
- Supplementary Restoration Maintenance – €842,000
- Former Bridge Repairs – €700,000
- Bridge Rehabilitation – €563,500
- Drainage Works – €425,500
- Climate Change Adaptation – €425,000
- Safety Improvement Works – €395,000
- Community Involvement Scheme – €389,950
- Specific Improvement Grant – €100,000
- Speed Limits Review – €40,500
- Training Grant – €32,000
- PSCI: Survey Support – €17,000
Laois Fianna Fáil TD Sean Fleming, in welcoming the news, says “the main priority with this funding is the ongoing maintenance and renewal of the regional and local road network, alongside strategic investment in developing and improving the road infrastructure network”.
“This investment will fund the repairing, strengthening and maintenance of Laois roads and ensure they are fit for purpose.
“I want Laois County Council to ensure that all this funding provided by the Government is 100% utilised this year for the benefit and safety of all people who use these roads in the county.”
