Abbeyleix photographer Jim Fennelly will appear on RTE’s Nationwide programme with reporter Mary Fanning on Friday, February 21.
Fanning filmed this prolific photographer out and about in County Laois earlier this year.
Seventeen years ago, Jim was dealt a severe blow when he was left without the full use of his legs after an accident, but he refused to give up and adjusted his life with the help of renowned press photographer Alf Harvey.
Jim is now an award-winning photographer who uses a specially adapted wheelchair and van for mobility.
He is a respected man behind the camera who captures Irish life in the Midlands through his lenses.
Mary Fanning interviews him about his attitude to life and why he never gave up.
She also talks to the highly respected photographer Alf Harvey, who encouraged and passed on his photography skills.
Jim became more proficient as the years went by, and the dynamic duo is well known for covering local and national events, like Electric Picnic and the National Ploughing Championships.
Jim is heavily involved with the Laois Pony Club, and the RTE TV crew follows him to Stradbally Hall for a shoot during dreadful weather.
The Pony Club members tell Mary Fanning about their respect and affection for this wonderful man who has been a part of their childhood.
The crew also went to the Field Equestrian Centre, just outside Athy, where owner Robert Owens spoke about their community’s respect for the photographer and his dedication to capturing memories.
Mary Fanning said: “Jim Fennelly is an inspiration to all who meet him, a joy to work with and a consummate professional who fought back, refused to give up and became known as the ‘Snapper on Wheels’.”
The programme will air on Friday, February 21, at 7 pm, be repeated on RTE + 1 at eight, and air again on the news channel at the weekend and on RTE 1 on Sunday morning.
