‘A decent human being’ – Sadness in Stradbally following the passing of community man Sean Langton

    There is sadness in Stradbally this week following the news of the passing of Sean Langton.

    From The Glebe in Stradbally, Mr Langton passed away on Tuesday, February 11 in St. James’s Hospital, Dublin surrounded by his loving family.

    Mr Langton’s passing comes just nine days short of two years after his late wife Breda (Birdie).

    Sean is remembered fondly by all of those who knew him as a proud community man who was always there to lend a helping hand.

    Local Fianna Fail Councillor Paschal McEvoy lived in the same estate as Sean for a quarter of a century and remembers him fondly.

    He said: “Our residents here in The Glebe are saddened at the loss of our great Friend and Neighbour Sean Langton.

    “I’ve lived here for 25 years and for all those years Sean was the man that took charge of the upkeep of our Estate.

    “He was always available to help. We will miss his humor and friendship.

    “He has now joined his beloved Birdie. Sean was a decent Human Being.”

    Sport was a big part of Sean’s life with his sons Martin, John, Jimmy and Podge making big impacts both on the field and in coaching capacities.

    Stradbally Town soccer club announced that their match on Friday in the CCFL has been called off as a mark of respect.

    They said: “Our Club extends our deepest sympathies to the Langton Family on the passing of their Dad Sean last.

    “Our thoughts are very much with his four sons Martin, John, Padraig and James who are all former players of ours, his daughter Cathy, grandsons Gavin, Jack and Danny who are all current players and indeed all Sean’s grandkids, sons and daughters in law, extended family, friends and all his neighbours in the Glebe.

    “As a Mark of respect to the Langton family our CCFL Division 2 game versus Moate Celtic scheduled for this Friday night in Moate has been postponed.”

    While Stradbally GAA added: “Stradbally GAA, members, supporters and all involved with the club would like to express our condolences following the passing of Sean Langton.

    “Our thoughts are with Podge, John, Martin, Jimmy and Cathy – his grandchildren, especially Jack and Danny and to all of their family at this very sad time.”

    Sean is sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his family, daughter Catherine, sons Martin, John, Padraig and James, grandchildren Gavin, Barry, Jessie, Jack, Clodagh, Danny, Nicola, Grace, Billy and baby Sean, great-grandchild Croíadh, brothers Jimmy and Paddy, son-in-law PJ, daughters-in-law Michelle, Siobhan, Aisling and Catherine, nieces, nephews, his great neighbours and a large circle of friends.

    He will be reposing at his home, The Glebe, Stradbally on Thursday from 3pm with Rosary at 8pm.

    Requiem Mass on Friday at 11am in the Sacred Heart Church, Stradbally. Interment to follow in Oakvale Cemetery, Stradbally.

    Funeral Mass will be streamed live on the Stradbally Parish Webcam.

    May Sean Rest in Peace.
