Applications Open for Mountmellick Credit Union’s 2025 Community Fund
Mountmellick Credit Union has launch their 2025 Community Fund, with up to €30,000 in funding available to support local community groups, clubs, and organisations in Mountmellick, Rathangan, Clonaslee, and the surrounding area.
Applications for funding are open until Friday, February 28 for “initiatives that make a positive impact on the community.”
As part of the Credit Union’s efforts to improve efficiencies and promote sustainability, all applications must now be submitted online.
MMCU say “this transition reduces paper, ensures a smoother process for applicants, and helps the Credit Union manage funding requests more effectively.”
To be considered for funding, applicants should:
- Clearly outline how the funds will benefit the community.
- Detail how they will promote Mountmellick Credit Union among their members.
- Consider applying for support for initiatives with an environmental or sustainability focus.

Kingsbridge Healthcare Group to hold Roadshow in Portlaoise
The Kingsbridge Healthcare Group will be in the Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise on Thursday, February 6, from 10am to 5pm, to talk people through the range of subsidised treatments and surgeries available at their private hospitals in Belfast and Derry.
With high levels of appointment cancellations in the Midlands Regional Hospital and national waiting lists still running into months of delay, more patients are exploring the option of getting a consultation within a week and surgery three weeks later across the border in Northern Ireland.
People are expected to travel from Offaly, Kildare and Carlow to learn more about the treatments subsidised by the HSE.
“The Northern Ireland Planned Healthcare Scheme provides patients with the option to access treatments quicker, thereby improving comfort and quality of life,” Fine Gael County Councillor Vivienne Phelan said.
“I regularly hear from constituents who are facing long waiting times for various procedures; this event will hopefully raise awareness that there is an alternative to waiting available in many cases.”
The HSE will refund the full cost of a hip or knee replacement at Kingsbridge private hospital facilities in Belfast or Derry, and patients with a referral from their GP can have a consultation and surgery within a month of their first contact with Kingsbridge.
Hysterectomy, vasectomy, gall bladder surgery and ACL repair are other surgical procedures covered by a full HSE reimbursement at Kingsbridge Private Hospital and Kingsbridge Northwest.
Reimbursement under the HSE Crossborder Healthcare Scheme will also cover 97% of the cost of a hernia repair, two thirds of the cost of breast reduction or circumcision, half the cost of a tonsillectomy or carpal tunnel procedure, and 47% of the cost of cataract surgery.
