Laois rugby International honoured by Royal College of Physicians

A Laois doctor and Irish rugby International has been honoured at a recent ceremony held by the Royal College of Physicians in Dublin.

Eimear Corri from Portlaoise was recognised along with other medical graduates who have represented the Ireland rugby team over the past 150 years.

As well as the presentations, an exhibition of historic memorabilia was also on display.

Corri is a doctor at Tallagh University Hospital having graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons.

She was educated at Scoil Chríost Rí, Portlaoise, before going on to study Sports Science and Health at Dublin City University.

Corri began her rugby career with Portlaoise RFC but left Togher to join Blackrock College, where she won the AIL Division 1 in 2023.

The second row star was called into the Leinster squad where she has made eight appearances and scored three tries, winning the 2023 and 2024 Interprovincial titles.

2023 saw Corri earn her first call-up to the Ireland senior women’s team to take part in the WX5 series.

Corri made her debut in Dubai a win over Kazakhstan and went on to play in the victories over Columia and Spain as Ireland left the UAE as champions.

The Portlaoise lock was selected for the Ireland squad in last year’s 6 Nations where she made her debut in the competition against Italy to win her fourth international cap.
