A free suicide bereavement support awareness event will take place on Thursday, January 30, from 7.30pm to 9pm at the Killeshin Hotel, Portlaoise.
The event will offer advice, support, and information for those impacted by suicide or supporting others who are bereaved.
Speakers from Pieta and HUGG (Healing Untold Grief Groups) will share insights into their services, along with a personal story of lived experience of suicide loss.
Everyone is welcome to attend, and refreshments will be provided.
This event is one of many held across the Midlands aimed at raising awareness and providing training on suicide prevention and support.
Supported by the HSE, it is part of Connecting for Life, Ireland’s national suicide prevention strategy, which offers a wide range of supports, including nationwide services and 24/7 assistance.
It also provides ongoing resources to reassure people that help is always available and that they are not alone.
Additionally, Suicide Bereavement Support Services serve as a vital support for those impacted by suicide.
Josephine Rigney, Resource Officer for Suicide Prevention – HSE Dublin and Midlands highlighted the importance of the event.
She said: “The prevention of the loss of life to suicide and providing support to those who have been bereaved is important for every community.
“We would therefore encourage anyone who has been personally impacted by suicide or who is supporting someone to attend this event.
“We also urge people to share this opportunity to gain awareness, support and guidance with others.
“Together we can help to ensure that no one feels alone in their grief journey.”
