The Status Red warning from Met Eireann ended at 11am and Status Orange is now in place until around 4pm.
Roads in Rosenallis, Portlaoise and Stradbally – at both the Windy Gap and Rock of Dunamaise – have been reported as impassable due to fallen trees.

They said: “We are strongly advising the public not to make unnecessary journeys.
“Aside from the dangers of fallen trees, power cables and telecoms infrastructure, there will be a lot of debris on roads and footpaths.
“Laois County Council crews will begin to mobilise from 11.00am to respond to storm damage across the county
“There will be multiple hazards on streets, roads, and footpaths, and the public are asked to report any incidents to the Council’s Emergency Hotline Number 1800 832010.
