It was a historic day in St Colman’s National School Stradbally as their new astro facility was officially opened by Bishop Denis Nulty.
The Bishop was the guest of honour on what was a very special day in the school calendar.
This was because today was also Grandparents’ Day – a day where the grandparents of the children are invited to the school.
They first celebrated mass in the Church of the Sacred Heart alongside Fr David Vard before heading across to the school gym for tea, cake, sandwiches and various other refreshments.
Bishop Nulty cut the cake and then headed for the astro facility for the official blessing.
The pitch has been developed as part of the Sports Capital Project delivered through Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
Here, he was joined by representatives from Stradbally Town, T&S United, Stradbally GAA and Timahoe Ladies plus the Board of Management and Parent’s Council along with Principal Bryan Lynch and Deputy Sharon Carroll.
Bishop Nulty spoke about the incredible facility that now exists for the community and hoped it will benefit all for many years to come.
A Tractor and Truck Run will take place in aid of the local school, organised by the Parents Council as they seek to raise the funds to put the finishing touches on its wonderful new astro facility.
Floodlighting, ball stop nets and car parking are just some of the items on the to-do list and it’s with that in mind that the Tractor and Truck run has come about.
Ross Molloy was on hand to capture some pictures from the event today.
