Heywood CS 4-7 Our Lady of Lourdes Secondary School Rosbercon (Wexford) 2-8
Leinster Colleges Camogie ‘C’ Senior Championship Final
Heywood Community School were crowned Leinster ‘C’ camogie champions yesterday in St Lachtain’s in Kilkenny.
They prevailed by five points over Our Lady of Lourdes Secondary School Rosbercon from Wexford.
Heywood got off to an unsettling start, Rosbercon piling on pressure from the beginning.
Sive O’Reilly and Sinead Brennan, two stand out defenders, done everything possible to clear their lines where possible.
Rosbercon did manage one goal but Heywood replied with two to level the game at half time – 2-2 to 1-5.
Heywood came out all guns blazing in the second half with three points on the trot and a third goal which was scored by Molly Cummins.
Keeper Grace Foxe denied Rosbercon a goal with an excellent save from a penalty but couldn’t hold them out much longer as they did rattle the net soon after.
They clawed themselves back to within a point. However, Heywood steadied the ship and blasted home their final goal with five minutes to go.
That was followed by points as Heywood sealed victory and claimed glory.
Their journey continues this weekend as they enter the All-Ireland stage of the competition.
They will have home advantage on Saturday as they will face St Dominic’s of Cabra at 1pm in Heywood.
