Alcoholics Anonymous group to hold public information event in Portlaoise

A Laois support group has announced it will hold an open meeting at the end of the month to help spread awareness about the services they provide.

Portlaoise First Things First Group of Alcoholics Anonymous will hold the open meeting at 8pm on January 31.

The meeting will be held in Holly’s Room, Clonminam Industrial Estate, R32 R624.

Promoting the meeting, organisers of the Alcoholics Anonymous group said:

“Are you or is someone you know struggling with Alcohol? Come along to see what supports are on offer.”

Portlaoise First Things First Group of Alcoholics Anonymous host regular closed meetings each week; however, this event is an open meeting where the emphasis will be on providing significant information into what services are available.

There will be speakers on the night from members of the AA group and Al-Anon.

Al-Anon is a family group that provide “help and hope” for families and friends of alcoholics.

“In essence, it’s an information night for people who think hey might struggle with alcohol abuse, or they have a family member or a loved one who they suspect might struggle with alcohol abuse,” one organiser said.

Portlaoise First Things First Group are one of two AA groups in Portlaoise along with Portlaoise Serenity, and between them there is an AA meeting in the town every day of the week.

There are anuber of other AA groups throughout the county in Abbeyleix, Killeshin, Mountmellick, Portarlington and Rathdowney.
