In Pictures: Portarlington Rugby Club steal the show with ‘spectacular’ mock wedding

Portarlington Rugby Club celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2024 and part of the celebrations included a series of fundraisers, the biggest of which took place over Christmas.

The club’s seniors came up with a rather novel idea to hold a mock wedding, complete with hen and stag parties, in what turned out to be more successful than anyone could have foreseen.

Held in the Railway bar, the wedding was a fully formal affair which included food, live music, a DJ, and a champagne and strawberries reception.

With the fundraiser going towards flood lights for Lea Road, club members turned out in force to see bride Aoibhin Maher groom Warren Murray joined to matrimony.

Portarlington RFC hailed the event as “a spectacular night” and thanked all who contributed.

The Railway Bar’s Niall Gallagher said the mock wedding was “one of the best events we ever ran”.

He said: “People were blown away by the set-up and the nights entertainment.

“I saw tears of laughter running down the faces of several people, so it was an all round winner.”
