Gardai launch investigation after ’16-year-old boy beaten up’ outside Laois cemetery

Gardai have launched an investigation after a young person was allegedly the victim of an assault outside a Laois cemetery.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening around 7pm in Errill and resulted in a Laois teenager being admitted to Portlaoise Hospital.

LaoisToday understands that the young man who was injured is just 16-years-old.

It is believed that he was ‘badly beaten up at St Kieran’s Cemetery by three other males’.

Gardai have confirmed that an investigation is now underway.

A spokesperson said: “Gardaí received report of an alleged incident of assault, that occurred in Erril, Co. Laois, on the evening of Sunday January 12.

“A male youth was conveyed to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise for treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at the time.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
