Richard passed away unexpectedly on the 10th January 2025, at the Midlands Regional Hospital Portlaoise. Predeceased by his father John.

Sadly missed by his son Richie, his beloved mother Margaret (Peg), sister Lily (Connolly), brother-in-law Eugene, niece Lisa, nephew John, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Catherine (Tess) Stodel (née Dunne)
Clonabeg, Clonaslee, Laois

Catherine (Tess) Stodel, (Née Dunne), formerly of Clonabeg, Clonaslee, Co. Laois, & Portlaoise, & England. Passed away peacefully on the 10th of January 2025 in the loving care of the staff at St. Vincent’s Community Nursing Unit, Mountmellick. Predeceased by her beloved husband Jack & her infant baby girl Leonora. Tess will be very sadly missed & lovingly remembered by her children Clara & Martin, & her son-in-law Mark, her cherished grandchildren Kyra, Floyd, Ethan & Alessia, her sisters Margaret, Nance, Carmel, Bernadette & Geraldine & her brothers PV & Brendan, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Reposing at the Heritage Centre, Main St., Clonaslee, on Thursday the 16th of January from 11:30am – 1:30pm, with removal to St Manman’s Church, Clonaslee, arriving for 2pm Funeral Mass. A private cremation will take place at a later date.

Josephine (Josie) Byrne (née Young)
Ballycleary, Castletown, Laois

Josephine (Josie) Byrne (Nee Young), Ballycleary, Castletown, Co. Laois, passed away January 11th 2025, peacefully surrounded by her loving family in the care of staff at St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Elm Park, Dublin.

Predeceased by her parents Thomas and Joan, brothers Seamus and TJ.

Deeply regretted by her loving husband Tony, sons James and Colm, brothers Con, Ger and Liam, sister Breeda, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Josie’s funeral cortege will arrive at St. Edmunds Church, Castletown on Wednesday (Jan 15th) for Funeral Mass at 11am which may be viewed on the link below:

Durrow, Laois

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family early Saturday morning.

Predeceased by his father Edmond and sister Rachel.

Beloved husband of Geraldine, devoted father to Marc, Lisa and Paul, daughter-in-law Karen, son -in -law Brandon, and adored grandfather to Julian.Ian will be deeply missed by his wife,children, grandson, mother Elizabeth, brothers,sister, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, extended family neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Funeral service will take place at St. Fintan’s Church Durrow County Laois on Tuesday at 2pm. Followed by burial in Killermogh Cemetery Ballacolla County Laois.

Emily Ellen Culhane
Boley, Abbeyleix, Laois/Crumlin, Dublin

Emily Ellen Culhane. The birches lower Boley, Abbeyleix, Co.Laois. Died January 5th 2025. Unexpectedly at Beaumont Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Dearly loved daughter to Sean and Bernie and beloved sister to Sam.

Deeply regretted by her grandmother Pat, uncles Ken, Declan, Brian, Martin, Pascal and David, aunts, Aisling, Catherine, Angela, Julie and Elizabeth, cousins Eoin, Catherine, Sarah, Daniel, Owen, Caolan, Tadhg, Mustaffa, Katie, and Lilly, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Keegan’s Funeral Home Portlaoise on Monday January 13th from 6pm till 8pm with rosary at 7pm. Removal on Tuesday to SS Peter and Paul’s Church Portlaoise for 12 noon requiem mass. Cremation will follow immediately afterwards in Newlands Cross Crematorium at 2:30pm.

John Burke
Ballyknockan, Portlaoise, Laois, R32 HH61

Beloved husband of Brigid and much loved father of Alice, Joanna, John and Anita. Deeply regretted by his loving family, son in law, daughter in law, grandchildren, sister Eileen, nieces, nephews,extended family, relatives and friends.

Reposing at Keegans funeral home on Sunday between 6 and 8pm, with rosary recital at 7.30. Removal to St Peter and Pauls church Monday for 12noon requiem mass. Interment afterwards is St Peter and Pauls cemetery.

Bellgrove, Ballybrittas, Laois

Peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a short illness on the 10th January, under the wonderful care of the Laois Specialist Palliative Care Team and his carer Mary. Predeceased by his beloved wife Ann, sisters Maureen, Kathleen and Ann, infant brother Martin and daughter-in-law Nora. A much loved father of Bernard, Liam, George (Kevin), Ann Marie, P.J., Madeleine and Geraldine. Deeply regretted by his loving family, sister-in-law Cathy, daughters-in-law Betty, Margaret, May and Valerie, sons-in-law Martin and Paddy, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

Reposing at his daughter Geraldine’s residence in Bellgrove, Ballybrittas (eircode R32 H2P0) on Saturday and Sunday from 3pm with Rosary on both evenings at 8pm. Removal on Monday morning at 11:20am arriving The Sacred Heart Church, Rath (R32 FN44) for Requiem Mass at 12 noon. Funeral afterwards to The New Cemetery Emo.

Br. Killian (John) O’Sullivan
Lehid, Tuosist, Killarney, Kerry/Castletown, Laois

Br. Killian (John) O’ Sullivan, De La Salle Brothers, Castletown, Portlaoise, Co. Laois and late of Lehid, Tuosist, Killarney, Co. Kerry. Died January 10th 2025, peacefully in the loving care of the community and staff of Miguel House.

Predeceased by his parents James and Mary, sisters and brothers. Deeply missed by his nieces, nephews, relations and friends and especially by his confreres in religion and the staff in Miguel House.

Reposing in Miguel House (R32NX40) on Sunday January 12th from 11am with Evening Prayer and Rosary at 6.30pm on Sunday evening. Funeral Mass on Monday January 13th at 12 Noon, followed by Burial immediately afterwards in the Monastery Cemetery, Castletown.

John (Gussie) Maguire
Droimnin, Stradbally, Laois/Dublin/Nurney, Kildare

John (Gussie) Maguire, Stradbally Co. Laois. Formerly of Ballyfermot and Rathcoole Dublin.

Son of the late Gussie and May, peacefully at his home.

Sadly missed by his beloved daughters Deirdre, Siobhan, Patricia, Aoife, Irene, Una and their mother Phil, loving partner Jeanette, adored grandchildren, sons in law, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, extended family, wonderful neighbours, colleagues and friends.

Removal by Glennons Funeral Directors on Monday to arrive at The Church of The Sacred Heart, Nurney for Requiem Mass at 1pm. Cremation afterwards in Mount Jerome Crematorium, Harold’s Cross at 4:00pm. Family flowers only.
