Gardai have launched an appeal for information after a woman returned home and disturbed burglars.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at a house in Lough Gate, Portarlington.
It is understood that the woman discovered two burglars in the upstairs part of her house.
It is believed they were armed with an implement but fled when the woman arrived.
She was thankfully unharmed but Gardai have launched an appeal for anyone with information to contact them.
They said: “Gardaí responded to a reported burglary at a residence in Lough Gate, Portarlington, shortly after 5pm.
“Two intruders fled the scene empty-handed when the homeowner returned.
“No injuries were reported and investigations are ongoing.”
Gardaí at Portlaoise Garda Station are appealing for information in relation to the burglary.
They are asking witnesses or anyone with information to contact Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 867 4100.
