Snow, ice and heavy rain are to sweep over the country this evening with ‘significant accumulations of snow’ expected in the midlands.
The Status Oraneg snow-ice warning is in place for Laois, Carlow, Kilkenny, Offaly, Wicklow, Clare, Limerick and Tipperary. It came into place at 5pm this evening and remains until 5pm on Sunday.
“Please note that Weather Warnings may be updated over the weekend so please monitor Met Eireann forecasts,” said Laois County Council in a statement.
“There are likely to be wintry showers and icy surfaces over the weekend, which will lead to difficult travel conditions.
“Driving conditions will be hazardous even where roads are treated. Please take care while walking as footpaths are likely to be extremely hazardous and slippery due to ice.”
Laois County Council are also urging people to check on elderly, vulnerable and isolated neighbours. They are also reminding people to keep their phone charged and with them on all journeys.”
