Colt-Shanahoe and the Shanahoe Ladies Football clubs had great seasons in 2023 – and the celebrated in style in early 2024.
There was double the reason to celebrate on Saturday night as Colt-Shanahoe hurlers and Shanahoe Ladies held a joint dinner dance.
The Manor Hotel in Abbeyleix was packed to capacity as members of both clubs turned up in huge numbers.
Colt-Shanahoe were there to remember their first ever championship win since their amalgamation a few years ago.
They were crowned Intermediate hurling champions following victory over Trumera last October.
It took a replay to get the job done – but Colt-Shanahoe were emphatic winners in that rematch.
They trailed by a point at half time, but three goals in the second half and electric performances from Nathan Dunne and James Keyes saw them run out comprehensive winners in the end.
The pair combined for 3-3 in the second half and played a huge role in putting Trumera to the sword.
They celebrated that on Saturday while Shanahoe Ladies remembered their great victory in the Intermediate Ladies championship.
They were 4-12 to 3-11 winners following an extremely entertaining contest with St Joseph’s.
Alice Walsh and Mary Griffin (formerly Kirwan) were on top form for Shanahoe as they kicked 1-10 between them and that was ultimately the difference.
Former Laois player Pat Critchley was the special guest on the night and presented medals to both teams.
There was also a special presentation to Eimear Barry for winning the Intermediate All-Ireland football championship with with Laois in 2022.
While Laois LGFA chairman Pat O’Sullivan and Laois GAA hurling board chairman Mattie Collier also made speeches on the night.
Our photographer Julie Anne Miller was there to capture all of the style on the night.
