The death has occurred of Larry Dunne in Portlaoise, a former highly-respected official in Laois County Council and an all-round sportsman who made a huge contribution to a wide range of local clubs.
Mr Dunne worked in the water section of Laois County Council for years and was a popular, well-regarded and helpful official.
On the sporting scene he was on the Portlaoise football team that won the club’s first Leinster title in 1971.
Also a very talented soccer player, he was one of the victims of the infamous ‘Ban’ and after it was lifted, resumed his GAA career to play a central role in that 1971 club success with The Town.
Badminton and golf were two other sports that he also excelled in and he was a former captain in The Heath Golf Club, whom he represented with pride and distinction over the years too.
Beloved husband of Frances and dearly loved father to Alan, Karol, Joan and Sarah, Larry is also mourned by his grandchildren Séan, Eoghan, Aidan, Leannán, Bonnie, Nina and Barra.
He is also deeply regretted by his sons-in-law Gordon and Peter, daughters-in-law Nicola and Carol, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives friends and former colleagues in Laois County Council.
Larry is reposing at Keegans funeral home on Monday from 6-8pm.
Removal from his home on Tuesday to arrive at SS Peter and Pauls Church for 12 noon requiem mass. Interment will follow in SS Peter and Pauls Cemetery.
