WATCH: Standing room only as Stradbally Community Choir host hugely successful first performance

It was standing room only in Sacred Heart Church in Stradbally on the eve of Christmas Eve.

Hundreds of people turned up as the Stradbally Community Choir put on their first performance.

15 weeks after the group first came together, 100 men and women appeared on the altar to put on a show.

Dreams by The Cranberries, From Now On from The Greatest Showman and The Town I Loved So Well were just some of the hits that were performed.

While the group concluded with a number of festive favourites – and even had a visit from Santa Clause himself.

Ross Molloy acted as MC on the night and thanked everyone who turned out in huge numbers.

Buckets went around during the performance too with all funds donated going back to St Colman’s National School.

The group also made a donation to Stradbally St Vincent de Paul and Stradbally Meals On Wheels.

While there were also special thank yous for John ‘Blue’ Maher, Andrew Conroy, Diarmuid Brady and the aforementioned Ross Molloy.

With the crowd also on their feet for three people who were credited with driving the choir to being the overwhelming success it has become – Sinead Moran, Ros Larkin and Aisling Maher.

Before proceedings concluded, parish priest Fr David Vard, who is a member of the Timahoe Male Choir, joked that there may be a second choir from the parish who will perform at Electric Picnic in 2025.

Watch this space on that one.
