Laois-owned iconic Dublin nightclub and hotel records multi-million profits once more

Copper Face Jacks, the iconic Dublin nightclub and hotel, has recorded pre-tax profits of €2.8m.

Coppers is owned by former Garda Cathal Jackson, a Laois native, and his wife Paula.

According to RTE, new accounts show that Breanagh Catering Ltd recorded a 10% drop in pre-tax profits from €3.11m to €2.8m.

But revenues increased by 4% from €11.35m to €11.78m in the 12 months to the end of January 31 this year.

Revenue levels are now higher than pre-pandemic levels as the business is now fully recovered from Covid-19.

Bar sales of €10.46m were recorded this year while the Jackson Court Hotel on Dublin’s Harcourt Street recorded a further €1.32m in accommodation sales.

Numbers employed by the business last year increased by four from 137 to 141 as staff costs increased from €4.18m to €4.57m.

Pay to directors increased from €1.35m to €1.43m made up of remunerationof €289,651 and a €1.15m contribution into the Jacksons’ pension pot.

The €1.15m made in directors’ pension contributions follows a €1m contribution in the prior year.

Mr Jackson opened Copper Face Jacks in February 1996 and he put the business up for sale in March 2019.

However, staff were told in a company memo in November 2019 that the business was no longer for sale.
