A Laois TD has confirmed that Housing Adaptation grants have been increased by the government.
It means that the amount of money available for older people and those with disabilities to make improvements to their homes has gone up.
According to Fianna Fail’s Sean Fleming, the maximum level of Housing Adaption Grant for Disabled People is now €40,000 (an increase of €10,000).
The Housing Aid for Older People Grant is now €10,700 (an increase of €2,700); and the maximum level of the Mobility Aid Grant is now €8,000 (an increase of €2,000).
The improvements in this Government grant include an increase in the grant limits of over 30% and an increase of 25% in the income thresholds for eligibility.
Deputy Fleming said: “This is very welcome news for older people and people with disabilities in Laois, who need support to adapt their homes so that they can live comfortably.
“With rising costs of building materials and works, it is important that the Government increases these grants to cover costs.
“The Housing Adaptation Grant makes a real difference to people’s lives, whether it’s a new disability wetroom or new windows and doors for older people.
“I encourage Laois County Council to now work to deliver the maximum amount and maximum number of grants to people in the County who need them.”
