There is sadness in the small rural communities of Arles and Ballickmoyler following the passing of Tony O’Kelly.
He is the popular local publican whose family have run O’Kelly’s pub for a long number of years.
My O’Kelly, who was originally from Killeshin, passed away on December 10, almost exactly six months after his late wife Betty.
A landmark on the N80 in the village of Ballickmoyler, the O’Kellys were proud sponsors of the Arles-Kilcruise GAA club.
They came on board in the early days in 1995 with their name adorned on the club jerseys during their incredible rise from Junior ‘B’ to senior champions in the space of eight years.
Taking to social media last night, Arles-Kilcruise paid tribute to the late Mr O’Kelly.
They said: “It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the sad passing of Tony O’Kelly, Ballickmoyler.
“Our local pub O’Kelly’s have been our main jersey sponsor since 1995.
“Tony was always so pleasant and welcoming to all club members who visited there over the years, we thank him for his kindness.
“Our club would like to express condolences to Raymond, Clodagh and grandson Jude, Tony’s sisters Peggy and Helen and extended families.
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
Tony is the much loved dad of Ray, cherished father-in-law of Clodagh and adoring grandad of Jude.
He will be sadly missed by his loving son, daughter-in-law, grandchild, sisters Peggy and Helen, nephew, nieces, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Tony will be reposing at Carpenter Bros. Funeral Home, Maryborough Street, Graiguecullen (R93 ET80), on Wednesday from 5pm concluding with prayers at 7pm.
His Removal from there will taka place on Thursday morning at 9.45am to St. Clare’s Church, Graiguecullen, arriving for Funeral Mass at 10am.
Tony will be laid to rest afterwards in Arles cemetery. May he Rest in Peace.
