The Laois GAA County Convention takes place this evening in the Midlands Park Hotel.
At this Convention, clubs have the right to propose motions to the County Board.
The first club to propose motions is Stradbally, who have proposed two motions.
The first motion is that the number of players that teams have to submit for their first and subsequent teams (by Feb 28) should be reduced to 13 players.
And also at the moment that the number of players submitted for Championship panels be reduced to 15 players.
At present, the figures for the above are 15 and 17 respectively. The motion also calls that the date for submitting championship panels be put back from May 14 to June 21 and that clubs be allowed to amend their Championship panel at this time.
The second motion that Stradbally have put forward is that after two championship rounds clubs would be allowed to apply to regrade a maximum of two players subject to approval of the CCC.
To be eligible to be considered for this regrading, a player must not have started both of the games played at the higher
grade.
The second club to propose a motion to the County Board is Park-Ratheniska.
This is that any players from a single code club currently registered and attached to a second club to avail of hurling/football be allowed continue with that club for the duration of their playing career.
This rationale for this is in light of current and upcoming club alignment moves, it has to be recognised that there are players who have been playing with clubs from nursery up to U-13 for up to six years in some cases.
The motion states that these player should be allowed continue with that club rather than being uprooted to another club at a young age, ‘which could cause player dropout’.
These motions will be discussed and gone through at the Convention at 7:30 tonight.
