Laois-based singer releases new Christmas single with proceeds going towards Simon Communities Ireland

Durrow-based singer Davie Furey has released his latest single ‘Christmas Eve‘, raising proceeds and awareness for The Simon Communities of Ireland.

Recorded in Jealoustown Studios, County Meath, the song features Fury, who wrote the lyrics, on vocals and acoustic guitar; Stuart Gray of alt-rock band, Royseven, is producer as well as featuring on guitar and keys; and Michael Kerr of The Whistlin’ Donkeys featurrs on fiddle.

“I’ve written a couple of Christmas themed songs over the years but have never released any of them or included them on my albums,” Furey said.

“‘Christmas Eve’ was written in about 20 minutes and recorded in a day at Jealoustown with Stuart.

“As soon as I wrote it, I needed to record it as quickly as possible…some songs are just impatient, I guess.

“For me, this is a song of reflection and gratitude, whilst also being aware that this time of the year can be very difficult for people.

“All proceeds of the single will be donated to The Simon Communities of Ireland and the great work they do in supporting people facing homelessness across the country.”

The Simon Communities of Ireland are a network of independent communities around the country that provide homeless, housing and treatment services to people facing the trauma and stress of homelessness.

Simon works to end long term homelessness in Ireland and ensure that homelessness, where it does occur, is rare, short-term and non-recurring.

The organisation is a leading campaigner in putting forward solutions for tackling homelessness.

Aisling McSharry, Corporate Manager of The Simon Communities of Ireland, said:

“We are delighted to be partnering with Davie Furey on his Christmas single and hope this will raise much needed funds and awareness for the people facing the issues of homelessness this Christmas Season.”

Christmas Eve is available on all streaming platforms from Tuesday, December 3.
