Laois man named as manager of top Dublin senior football club

Lar Wall

Lar Wall from Arles-Kilcruise has been appointed as the manager of Dublin senior football club St Jude’s.

A Laois club championship winner in 2003, Wall takes over at the club which reached the 2021, 2017 and 2009 finals but lost them all.

Wall, who lives near Enfield in Meath and is heavily involved with the Na Fianna club, was a coach with the Roscommon footballers alongside manager Davy Burke this year.

He previously managed the Wolfe Tones club in Meath for seven seasons, where they were agonizingly beaten in the 2020 senior final.

In 2022 he was over The Downs in Westmeath when they won their first senior title in 17 years.

Earlier this year, following the departure of Colm O’Rourke, Wall was linked with the Meath manager job.

In the end, that went to Robbie Brennan, a Dubliner who oversaw three Leinster club titles and an All Ireland for Kilmacud Crokes.

This year, St Jude’s were in Group 1 of the Dublin SFC where they lost to eventual champions Cuala and Clontarf in their group.

They defeated Fingallions in their other group game which kept them safe from the threat of relegation.

They said: “St Jude’s are delighted to announce the appointment of experienced coach and manager Lar Wall as their new senior football manager.

“Lar played his club football with Arles-Kilcruise in Laois where he won championship medals at all adult levels, cumulating in the club’s first senior championship title win in 2003.

“His coaching career began in Gaeil Colmcille in Meath in 2015, he spent seven years at the helm, contesting seven club finals in various competitions.

“He then took the reins of The Downs in Westmeath, winning the Championship for the first time in 17 years and also guiding them to a Leinster final, which they lost narrowly to Kilmacud Crokes.

“Lar has spent the past season as head coach with the Roscommon Senior footballers. St Jude’s are looking forward to having Lar on board for the seasons ahead.”
