A man has appeared in court this morning following the death of another man in a luxury Laois hotel.
Henry McGowan, from New York and a US national, appeared in Portlaoise District Court charged with murder.
Gardai charged Mr McGowan, who is understood to be known to the deceased, following the fatal assault.
He has been remanded to Cloverhill Prison from where he will appear in court again on Monday via video link.
On Tuesday, Gardaí were alerted to an incident at the Ballyfin Demense shortly before 8pm.
A man in his 60s was found dead and another man aged in his 30s and who was known to the deceased, was arrested.
It is understood the two were guests at the hotel and were travelling together.
Ballyfin Demesne is a five-star luxury country house set across 600 acres at the foot of the Slieve Bloom mountains.
It has hosted major US celebrities in the past, including George Clooney and his wife Amal as well as Kim Kardashian and Kanye West on their honeymoon in 2014.
