Portlaoise Institute has announced the successful installation of a state-of-the-art solar panel system at its Further Education campus on the Mountrath Road, Portlaoise.
This forward-thinking initiative marks a significant step in the Institute’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.
The newly installed solar panels are expected to generate a substantial portion of the energy required to power the campus, providing a clean and renewable energy source.
This development places Portlaoise Institute at the forefront of environmental innovation within the education sector.
Principal Keith McClearn expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “To the best of my knowledge, we are the first Further Education centre in Ireland to be powered by solar energy.
“This is a significant milestone for Portlaoise Institute, showcasing our dedication to sustainability and the environment.
“The innovative project would not have been possible without the support of Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board (LOETB) and collaborative efforts of Tony Dalton (LOETB Director of FET), Michelle Shanahan (LOETB FET Manager) and Liam Dunne (LOETB Buildings Officer).”
Additionally, he acknowledged the exceptional work of Greenway Solar, the company responsible for the installation.
“Greenway Solar provided professional and helpful service, ensuring the project was completed efficiently and to the highest standard,” he added.
This initiative highlights Portlaoise Institute’s role as a leader in sustainable education, it’s commitment to sustainability and its proactive approach to reducing carbon emissions.
The Institute looks forward to reaping the environmental and economic benefits of this green energy solution in the years to come.
