New restaurant and takeaway set to replace former Mountmellick pub

A new restaurant and takeaway could be on its way to Laois at the location of a once popular town pub.

Weijing Pan and Jianyan Lin have applied to Laois County Council for planning permission to renovate a property at 11 Patrick Street, Mountmellick.

Operating as a pub for generations, the business held many monikers over the years, known to locals most recently as ‘Naomi’s’ following several years as ‘The Gallery’ and ‘The Old Oak’ before that.

Ms Pan and Mr Lin are well known in Mountmellick, running Chen’s Chinese Takeaway for many years on Parnell Street.

The planning application seeks to redevelop the premises from a public house to restaurant and takeaway and all the demolishment works and construction works involved.

Ms Pan and Mr Lin are also planning the redevelopment of the two existing apartments at first floor and second floor.

The new upstairs layout would include two one-bedroom apartments and one two-bedroom apartment.

Mr Lin told LaoisToday that Chen’s Chinese Takeaway will remain open on Parnell Street for the foreseeable future as works are carried out on Patrick Street.
