Tourist accommodation could be on it’s way to an Emo landmark, after planning permission was sought for The Old Rectory at Coolbanagher.
The house, which was was built in 1790, is set on a 45-acre farmyard and went on the market in 2017 with a guide price of €1.25m.
Now, a new application has been made to Laois County Council to make some alterations to the site which could greatly enhance their accommodation capacity.
Mr Mark Turner has sought planning permission to construct four two-bedroom units on the site, with two of which to include sensory rooms.
This will involve the demolition of an existing shed and the conversion an existing barn building.
The application specifies the desire to “cater for ambient able, disabled, and general holiday lets and short-term accommodation,” and would include a bike store for assisted cycle units.
The house and its ancillary buildings were adapted to include a self-catering tourism business in 1999.
This includes a coach-house, converted into two apartments, and the formers servants’ quarters in the main house that includes three bedrooms upstairs with a kitchen, living room and sunroom on the ground floor.
The entire property covers approximately 6,200 square-feet.
A decision is expected from Laois County Council on December 17.
