In Pictures: Mountrath Community School Science for Development Showcase at Iveagh House

Students and teachers from Mountrath Community School recently attended a special showcase of their work at Iveagh House in Dublin.

The group comprised of Fifth-year students Miriam Senior, Seana Dunne, David Fitzpatrick, their teacher, Laura Thompson, and principal, Kathryn O’Brien.

The Showcase recognised their project, which last year qualified for the BT Young Scientist Exhibition.

The event was an opportunity for the students to discuss their projects with peers and guests including representatives from the development, education, science and technology sectors.

Their project “Extracting latex from dandelions and finding an alternative sustainable source” was one of 12 chosen which addressed challenges affecting communities in poorer countries of the world.

Mountrath Community School said they are “very proud” of their students and their work on their “fascinating project.”

Iveagh House is the headquarters of the Department of Foreign Affairs, with Laois Fianna Fáil TD, Sean Fleming, Minister of State, joining Irish Aid in extending the invite to the Mountrath group.

Congratulations to all involved with the Extracting Latex project.
