New LaoisToday LoveLaois Podcast series to hear from Transition Year students from around the county

Since LaoisToday’s inception in February 2017, we have been inundated with requests from second level students around the county to spend some of their Transition Year work experience time with us.

For all concerned, we hope it has been an experience. From our point of view it has been a valuable exercise in engaging with the schools of the area and getting to know many young people.

Even though it has been a relative short space of time, it is always nice to see their progress in school, college and work as the years have progressed.

This school year has been no different and we have a full calendar with students booked in for the various terms.

While they observe what we do, and come along with us to various events, this year we have turned the tables somewhat: we are interviewing them as their placements come to an end.

To that end we have launched a Transition Year series as part of our LoveLaois Podcast.

We hear about their interests, their experiences, their hopes for the future, how they use social media and their attitudes towards spending and saving.

Our first episode will be available to listen to next Friday, October 25, where we chat to Megan Kavanagh from Portlaoise, a student in Scoil Chríost Rí, and that will be followed in the coming weeks by Cathal Carroll, from Knockbeg College, and then by Andrew Whelan from The Heath, who is in Portlaoise CBS.

Our Transition Year series is brought to you in association with People First Credit Union.  People First Credit Union support young minds in shaping their future.

People First believe in the power of community and the potential of youth. People First Credit Union – building a future of opportunity, one saver at a time.
