The 2 Johnnies wax lyrical about the Timahoe Men’s Choir following RTE TV show appearance

The 2 Johnnies Late Night Lock In continues on RTE tonight but the the lads behind it are still talking about what happened last week.

It was a real Laois affair last Thursday as Fr David Vard represented Stradbally in the Parish Quiz and won.

While the Timahoe Men’s Choir also made an appearance and helped sing ‘Craic On A Thursday Night’.

But speaking on the latest episode of their Podcast, Johnny B and Johnny Smacks explained how the choir left a massive impression on them – and the production crew.

Johnny B said: “The Timahoe Men’s Choir that Fr David Vard brought – they were lamped!

“The show ended with the band All Folk’d Up playing The Hills of Donegal, followed by a big round of applause, and we get it in our ear from the lads (producers) ‘no re-dos, that’s a wrap’.

“So we say ‘right lads, we get a photo’ but no, they took off into ‘na, na, na, na, na, naa, na, na, na, na’.

“No music or nothing, place going absolutely bananas, 37 lads from the church choir singing Freed From Desire with no music.”

Smacks said: “The crew had never seen anything like it. After that, we get photos with whoever is in the audience and it lasts 45 minutes or an hour.

“I went upstairs to get changed out of my clothes because I was sweating to death. I am upstairs in this little room in the pub where we record and all I can hear is ‘Oooohoooo Glorio’ and it is lifting downstairs.

“The choir are still going. Some lad has fashioned a guitar, I don’t know where they even got it out of.”

Johnny B added: “I have to say they were brilliant craic. It was good for your heart to see that in the middle of Laois, there is a men’s choir full of local men.

“All lads in their 30s, 40s, 50s etc, just getting together and signing and having the craic.

“It is a brilliant thing that they are doing. They are a bunch of legends.”

And, it would appear that the Timahoe Male Choir may have the chance to appear with The 2 Johnnies again.

Smacks: “Fr David Vard, who brought the choir, said that they are available for Pints In A Field

John B joked: “We are not bringing them animals backstage.”

Smacks said: “Only David is allowed back stage access but I reckon we will get them for Pints In A Field and get them out on stage.”

We will watch this space. You can listen to the full episode of the Podcast on Spotify.
