At a time when many people are enjoying multiple careers, Stradbally native Martina Mulhall is providing a new service to help them get on the right track.

Martina, who has 35 years experience as a primary school teacher as well as decades of volunteering with National Community Games, has established Gold Star Careers to assist people of all ages abilities and backgrounds to find their career niche.

2 – From Cullahill to Kentucky – Meet the Laois man who is thriving in the US agricultural industry

“Farming is pretty much the same everywhere you go” – Brian Caldbeck, a Laois man working in Kentucky’s agricultural industry, running a business called Rubisco Seeds.

He established Rubisco Seeds in 2009 to identify and supply high yielding canola (00 rapeseed) hybrids to the US and Canadian production regions.

3 – King, Simms and Scully confirmed as Top Scores in 2024 hurling championships

A bumper weekend of hurling finals ended with Clough-Ballacolla lifting the Laois SHC for the fourth time in the last five years.

That came less than 24 hours after Borris-Kilcotton had gotten their hands on the Premier IHC title.

A priest jumping out of an airplane was always going to grab attention and so it proved for Fr David Vard, the parish priest for Stradbally, Vicarstown and Timahoe, who led a motley crew of parishioners in a Sky Dive on Sunday morning.

The ‘Reach for the Skies’ fundraiser had 11 participants from across the three areas – including our very own Steven Miller.

10 Laois players have been selected between the Tailteann Cup and Joe McDonagh Cup teams of the year.

Both teams reached the final of the respective competitions and have been recognised for their efforts.

7 – In Pictures: Four titles in five years as Clough-Ballacolla celebrate Bob O’Keeffe once again

Clough-Ballacolla claimed the Bob O’Keeffe Cup for the fourth time in the last five seasons following victory in O’Moore Park last weekend.

Willie Hyland’s charges were six-point winners over Rathdowney-Errill, claiming their 12th title in all and their seventh since 2009.

8 – In Pictures: Wild celebrations as Castletown end minor drought with final win

There were wild scenes of celebration as Castletown claimed the Laois Minor A Hurling Championship title last weekend.

John Lyons’ charges became the first team from the club to claim ‘A’ glory since 2015.
