Two villages in Laois are seeking to become bastions for wellness in the county as the planning process gets underway.
Adam Brennan has applied to Laois County Council for an ambitious project in Aughnacross, Ballinakill.
The application is for construction of a wellness and accommodation facility which would include nine individual holiday units of approximately 40 square-metres each.
The application also includes a 200-square-metre natural swimming pool and associated wellness facilities over over 100 square-metres.
There are renovation and modification plans as well, including the renovation and extension of an existing stone structure into an admin building and modifications to an existing passageway entrance,
A decision is expected on November 24.
Meanwhile, Midland Escapes have also contacted Laois County Council with a view to a wellness development in Ballacolla.
The company have applied for planning permission for a wellness activity hub in Corraun.
Midland Escape is a wellness company founded in 2020 by Willie Hyland, the 2024 SHC-winning Clough-Ballacolla manager.
The company “empower people to take better care of their health and well-being,” with a strong emphasis on group activities, including kayaking, hiking, yoga, mountain biking, fishing and much more.
If approved, it would follow on from the SVT Activity and Wellness HUB, which promotes physical activities as well as health and wellbeing in the communities of Stradbally, Vicarstown and Timahoe.
