Of all the great moments that come from a team winning a county final, arguably one of the best is bringing the trophy to the local primary school.
And for the Crettyard footballers – who are on Cloud 9 all week following their intermediate football final win over Mountmellick last Friday – they duly did the rounds of the local schools in their area during the week.
Indeed there are three small feeder schools for the Crettyard club – Ardough, Mayo and Newtown, which overlooks the Crettyard pitch.
And principal Kevin Gorman in Newtown – himself a proud Portlaoise GAA man – threw the doors open this week to welcome in the local heroes.
A range of players and mentors, many of whom had family connections in the school, were among the visitors.
And you can be in no doubt that they’ve helped inspire the next generation too!
