There is a saying that it takes a strong panel to win a championship and it is very true.
This is especially the case in St Conleth’s – according to manager Chris Lynch.
His side defeated Portlaoise to claim just their second ever title last Saturday.
All of the players that he introduced made a big impact and he referenced that in his interview afterwards.
Lynch said: “(Having a strong panel) makes an absolute difference because the girls can empty the tank for 40-50 minutes.
“Then you have the likes of Aoibhe Byron, an experienced player and she’s a big game player, she showed it with tgreat frees.
“It is not easy to do that coming off the bench but in fairness to Aoibhe, I had to give her a tough call over the week and she reacted the way we wanted her to react and it worked off for us in the end.”
What does it feel like to be just the second manager to win the Ladies SFC with St Conleth’s?
Lynch said: “It’s hard to describe the feeling. It’s absolutely unbelievable.
“I knew by the girls that we had a big game in us and as I said during the week, it was going to be a battle and that’s exactly what it was.
“We just showed a lot of character and dug deep there especially in the last 15 to 20 minutes just to get over the line.
“It’s absolutely unbelievable and as I said to you last week, it takes a panel to win the championship and that’s exactly what happened.”
