There were 103 residential properties sold in Laois during August according to the Property Price Register, one house more than the 2023 figure.
Following a significant decline in the first quarter of the year, the sale of residential properties is starting to see a gradual increase as 2024 continues.
May saw a massive 30% increase on 2023, June saw a 12.5% increase, and July saw a 6.5% increase.
The figures continued to plateau in August which did see an increase, but only 1% up on August of 2023.
The upward trend may be over by the time we have the September figures.
In total, there was over €26 million spent on houses in Laois this August – almost €1 million more than the 2023 figure.
The average price for a house in Laois was €255,750 this August, up more than €4,000 on the average price from this time 12 months ago.
The most expensive property was Berjokayden House in Ballycarroll, Portlaoise, nearby the Rock of Dunamase, which sold for an eye-watering €775,000.
A second house also broke the half-a-million-euro barrier, selling for €650,000 in Arlington Green, Carriglea, Killenard.
One house broke the €400,000 barrier, with Slade House in Clonroosk Little, Portlaoise going for €415,000.
A further 29 houses broke the €300,000 barrier, including two houses in Foxburrow, Portlaoise, which sold for €396,475.77 and €378,854.00 respectively.
These 29 houses represent 28% of the total houses sold in August, up from 24.5% of houses that broke the €300,000 barrier 12 months ago.
There can be some anomalies in the figures on the Property Price Register but it is regarded as the most accurate barometer of activity on the residential property scene in Ireland.
