Have you ever wondered what it might be like to live mortgage free, in a beautifully designed, impeccably finished, A-rated house with picturesque views overlooking the Shannon?

Thanks to two of Leitrim’s biggest GAA rivals you, now might be your chance to realise that dream!

The two rival Leitrim GAA clubs of St. Mary’s Kiltoghert and Mohill GAA are clubbing together to raise much needed funds for their clubs’ future development, while at the same time, presenting an opportunity for some lucky person to win a house in Carrick-on-Shannon.

With stunning river views at Prior’s Point, these homes are A-rated for energy efficiency and offer top-tier residential opportunities, while featuring a private marina and numerous opportunities for outdoor living and recreational activities.

Central heating is provided by gas boilers connected to a communal supply, and each floor has individual heating zones for additional comfort and energy saving.

With solar heating and significantly enhanced insulation in the floors, walls and attic, it is estimated that the Prior’s Point homes will use 50% less energy compared to conventional homes of the same size.

The house is situated close to the river Shannon, which means there will be opportunities to enjoy the many resources that the river has to offer as well, not to mention the stunning scenery!

In early 2024, Mohill GAA and St Mary’s clubs realised that in order to enhance and future proof their club facilities, some serious fund raising was required.

Not faint hearted on the pitch, these two clubs have taken on an audacious challenge which will deliver championship results for both clubs.

Current Leitrim county champions, Mohill GAA has 400 members, with over 20 teams including under-age, minor, men, women and ‘mothers and others’, and caters for all ages from 7 years to adult.

Their weekly children’s Mini All Stars Academy caters for younger boys and girls as they develop their skills and the club is also very active in Scór. Integral to the community, Mohill GAA provides a hub for community recreation, health and well-being, socially and emotionally.

As the demand for club membership increases, Mohill GAA must grow and develop as well.

Plans for the future include a new all-weather astro turf sports facility, additional dressing rooms, a 500-seater stand, an upgraded walking track and lights, rebuilding of the boundary wall, and a car park.

The development of these facilities will provide much needed opportunities for the whole community to participate in sport and recreational activities.

Local rivals and partners in this initiative, St. Mary’s GAA has close to 900 members, competing at all club levels. With under-age girls and boys (4–18 years), and with A and B teams at almost every age level, St. Mary’s is a bustling place.

There are four men’s teams, two women’s teams, a ‘Mothers and Others’ team, All Stars, hurling and camogie at senior and under age levels.

But for all of these teams, the club only has one full-sized pitch, located at Pairc Naomh Mhuire, and half a pitch at Park Lane.

The vision for St Mary’s includes expanding the club facilities to include three new pitches, and club gym, the latter of which is currently under construction.

Following on from this, they have an astro turf pitch in their sights, so you can see they are focused and determined.

As both clubs strive to keep up with the demands of their growing communities, members have realised that some serious fundraising is required to achieve all they hope and dream of achieving.

And this is how the idea for this campaign came about. A tried and trusted formula, the ‘Win a House’ fundraiser is an effective way to create some excitement while raising much needed funds for very worthy causes.

Tickets to enter cost €50 or 3 for €100. The Clubs have elected to go for a lower than usual ticket price for such a draw to make entry as accessible as possible for all.

The draw takes place early January 2025 and it’s open to one and all!

Tickets will be for sale on WinAHouseInCarrickOnShannon.com and also in person from club members at different events and places over the coming months. These tickets will be a great gift for anyone, now matter where they live.

You can buy one for yourself or as a gift, perhaps as a wedding present, birthday and of course for Christmas. And remember, should you be lucky enough to win, you can live in it, holiday in it, retire to it, rent it or flip it – it’ll be your house, so you get to decide!
