Laois resident and Managing Director of The CUBE Low Carbon Centre of Excellence, Caroline Hofman, is set to appear on the iconic Channel 4 show Countdown on September 25.
A long-time fan of the quiz show, Caroline will appear on the show which has captivated audiences with its challenging word and number puzzles over the decades.
We had previously reported that Caroline would be the first ever Laois contestant in the show’s 42 year history.
However, back in 2001, Portlaoise native Ray McNamara was a Countdown champion and appeared on two episodes of the show.
Hosted by Colin Murray and featuring resident lexicographer Susie Dent and mathematician Rachel Riley, Countdown is known for its engaging mix of intellectual competition and light-hearted entertainment.
Contestants race against the clock to solve anagrams, master arithmetic challenges, and demonstrate linguistic prowess.
It has become a platform for individuals to demonstrate their intellectual prowess and wit.
In each episode, two contestants compete in 15 rounds of words and numbers to become the Countdown Champion.
“I’ve been watching Countdown for so many years, so I am thrilled to feature as a contestant on the show” said Caroline, reflecting on her excitement about competing.
“I never thought that I would have the opportunity to be in that studio, solving puzzles in front of such a recognisable and renowned team. I’m proud to be flying the Laois flag on the show in its 90th series!”
Countdown has been a television staple since its debut in 1982 and remains one of the longest-running game shows in the world with millions of daily viewers.
Be sure to tune in to Channel 4 on Wednesday, September 25 at 2.10pm to catch Caroline on Countdown and see if she can secure victory in this thrilling test of intellect and quick thinking.
The show can also be streamed for free on the Channel 4 app.
