St Colman’s National School Stradbally has announced that work has recommenced on the long-awaited Astro Turf pitch at the school.
This is huge news, not just for the school, but for the entire town of Stradbally.
Licensee agreements for the 2400 square-metre pitch are in place with Stradbally GAA, Timahoe Ladies GAA, T&S United and Stradbally Town AFC.
“After a period of delays, we are delighted to report that the project is now back on track, thanks to the incredible efforts of many individuals and the unwavering support of our school community,” principal Bryan Lynch told LaoisToday.
“This project has been a significant focus for St Colman’s NS, and while progress had stalled in recent years, we are excited to see things moving forward once again.
“The Board of Management has worked tirelessly to get the project back on track.
“Work has already resumed on site, and we are optimistic that the pitch will be fully completed by the end of 2024.”
The development has been years in the making, and it will be music to many ears in Stradbally that an end is finally in sight
“Bringing this project to its current stage has required immense dedication from a large number of people,” Mr Lynch said.
“From school staff and parents to volunteers and local supporters, it has been a true team effort.
“A key milestone in the project’s history was the successful Lip Sync fundraiser in February 2020, which united the entire St Colman’s community and raised the much-needed funds to make this vision a reality.”
The Astro Turf pitch is being developed as part of the Sports Capital Project delivered through Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
A contract has been signed with SIS Pitches, the company tasked with completing the installation.
“Once completed, it will be a tremendous asset for our students,” Mr Lynch said.
“This new facility will provide a safe and modern space for outdoor activities, ensuring that our pupils have the opportunity to engage in physical education and sports in a top-class environment.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has contributed to this initiative over the years. Without the generous support, hard work, and determination of so many, this project would not have been possible.
“A special thank you to the Carolan’s from Stradbally Plant Hire without whom the project would not have progressed to where it is now.
“We look forward to seeing the completed pitch and the positive impact it will have on our school and community.
“We will continue to provide updates as the project progresses and share our excitement as we near completion.”
