Laois Archery is offering local businesses a chance to be part of an international competition, being held in Portlaoise later this September.
The Irish Field Archery Federation (IFAF) – the sport’s governing body here – have chosen the Laois club to host their annual Bowhunter Championships on Saturday and Sunday, September 28 and 29.
Archers will be shooting on two separate courses over the weekend, all across Clonkeen Woods.
Between 160 and 200 archers are expected from across Ireland, the UK and Europe to compete in Laois and spend the weekend here.
Laois Archery is a field archery club based in Portlaoise. Since their founding in 2015, the club has grown exponentially, and is currently one of the biggest archery clubs in Ireland.
The sport is quickly gaining popularity in Ireland, with more and more archers registering with governing organisations every year.
Laois Archery are proud to be part of this growing movement and to be able to offer something different to the people of Laois and the surrounding counties.
IFAF’s National Competitions always draw interest from archers across the country and abroad; however, this year is seeing unprecedented interest in the events.
With so many people set to arrive in Laois from all across Europe, the club are excitedly trying to get local business involved in what could be a significant, long-lasting opportunity.
“Our message for local businesses is that this is a huge chance to promote themselves to an incredibly varied audience, with little to no effort on their part,” the club told LaoisToday.
“We’re asking local businesses to give us advertising materials – anything with your logo on it to promote yourself – to put into gift bags for the attendees, so we can showcase the best things about Laois, and ensure that we leave a good and lasting impression on our visitors.
“We’re thinking something as small as a branded pencil, a notepad, anything with a logo on it, gives us a chance to show off how much is going on in Laois.
“We’re a vibrant county, and it’s time to start promoting ourselves.”
Laois Archery provide both indoor and outdoor training venues, in both St Mary’s Hall and the surrounding woodlands.
“Over the summer, we try to encourage our members to get out to the woods as much as possible, where we have a permanent course set up,” Emily Phipps of Laos Archery said.
“There are competitions across Ireland almost every weekend. The archery community is growing larger and larger every year across Ireland, and we’re delighted to see that reflected in our own club.
“Our chairman, Nick Anton, has gained quite the reputation as a talented course-setter, so we’re certain that’s a major draw for us as well.”
