In Pictures: Transmitter rock as Portlaoise College celebrates new academic year

Portlaoise College’s students rocked their way into the new academic year with its annual commencement event in the school courtyard.

Local band Transmitter provided the entertainment, performing a setlist that appealed to all ages – even the staff.

Ranging from Coldplay and AC/DC there was something for everyone as the sunshine broke through the clouds with the vibrations of student excitement reverberating throughout the Mountrath rd campus.

The band who features Stewart Quinn, David Quinn, Wayne Connaughton and Robert Quinn even had an Oasis number for those still sore over missing the reunion tickets.

Principal Noel Daly said that event is a great way to kick start the new year.

He said: “It’s a great way to bring everyone together at the start of the year.

“Having a local band like Transmitter perform helps foster a sense of community, and it’s something the students really appreciate.

“It was fantastic to see the whole school, teachers and students smiling in the sun and having fun.

“The performance electrified the students and energised them for the year ahead.”
